* Sabrina is sitting behind the counter at the shop her head bent over a book, she is quietly humming to herself.
* Kevil enters, his lute slung over his shoulder. "Good day, songbird!"
* Sabrina looks up and smiles brightly "Hello Kevil. How are you today?"
<Kevil> ::smiles:: I am in excellent spirits! And you?
<Sabrina> I am doing very well too, ::she grins:: I saw Meghan and Abagail this morning for the first time. I was so excited when I heard.
<Kevil> ::smiles:: How were they?
<Sabrina> Very good. Meghan was happy to be back home I think. Abby was sleeping, she is so beautiful.
<Kevil> ::nods and grins::
<Kevil> And how go your exercises? You did not forget to practice, in the excitement, I hope?
<Sabrina> ::shakes her head:: Nope. I have been every day.
<Kevil> Good.
* Sabrina hops off her stool and comes around the counter. "Did you want to practice or did you just come by to visit?"
* Kevil pulls himself onto a stool on the floor and begins carefully tuning his lute, mindful of his injured hand. "Practice, by all means."
<Sabrina> ::glances down at Kevil's hand:: Ohh what happened? Are you sure you can play ok?
<Kevil> ::grins:: A brief run-in with some ruffians - hardly more than a scratch. I do not think I am up for complex melodies, but I can certainly handle some chords.
* Sabrina nods and pulls a stool over to sit near Kevil. "Ok." she smiles brightly "I'm ready when you are."
* Kevil plays a few chords. "Sing, then."
* Sabrina begins to sing scales following Kevils lead.
* Kevil runs through several octaves' worth of scales, pushing Sabrina to the very edge of her range on both ends.
* Sabrina closes her eyes standing after a moment as she concentrated on the music and her voice and breathing.
<Kevil> ::nods, watching her stance and breathing:: Good. Again.
* Sabrina smiles and continues to sing. After another moment she begins singing more complex notes to go with the chords Kevil plays.
<Kevil> Good. Do them louder.
* Sabrina slowly begins to sing louder watching Kevil for direction.
<Kevil> ::nods:: Better. Much better. ::he switches from scales to the opening phrases of a song::
* Sabrina switches easily with him, singing at the same volume as she had been.
* Kevil joins in to sing the harmony of the song.
* Sabrina closes her eyes again concentrating on the music and Kevils voice. Her face flushes slightly and her voice falters for a single note but she quickly regains her composure and continues on as if nothing happened.
<Kevil> ::When the song finishes, Kevil looks at her curiously:: What was that?
* Sabrina shakes her head her eyes not meeting his. "I just lost concentration for a moment. I'm sorry"
<Kevil> ::raises an eyebrow:: You certainly looked as if you were concentrating. What caused the lapse?
* Sabrina regards him for a moment and then looks down again. "I'm not sure. I...maybe we could try it again."
<Kevil> Hmm. Very well. ::he begins the song again::
* Sabrina takes a breath and begins to sing again.
* Kevil watches her for half a verse before joining in, still watching closely.
* Sabrina continues, her eyes on the floor as she sings, her voice smooth and flowing.
* Kevil nods as the song draws to a close. "Better."
* Sabrina smiles slightly and nods.
<Kevil> Do you think you can do the harmony?
* Sabrina looks thoughtful for a moment and then nods "I'll try"
<Kevil> ::starts the song over, taking the melody line for himself::
* Sabrina waits a moment and then comes in singing the harmony. Her voice flows with Kevils as if in a dance. Her face brightens a bit as she sings, and she watches Kevil play.
* Kevil looks at Sabrina carefully, then launches into an alternate harmony, leaving the melody behind, implied only by the lute's strings.
* Sabrina continues to sing, her voice flawless as Kevil changes to a harmony. Her concentration is obvious on her face, but her eyes do not leave Kevil's.
* Kevil grins and nods approvingly as the song ends again. "Excellent. Good concentration."
* Sabrina grins. "Thanks"
<Sabrina> Kevil can I ask you something?
<Kevil> Certainly. What is it?
<Sabrina> When do you think I will be good enough to sing in public?
<Kevil> ::raises an eyebrow:: It depends what you mean by "good enough". Simple talent and good will are sufficient to sing for a gathering of friends and loved ones. Street-corner minstrels have barely more than that. A number of years, however, is likely required before attaining the skill necessary to sing professionally.
* Sabrina nods looking thoughtful "oh"
<Kevil> What did you have in mind?
* Sabrina shrugs "Singing for someone other than you" she grins "Not that I don't love singing for you. I just would love the experience of sitting in front of a group of people and singing for them."
<Kevil> ::grins:: That is simple enough, songbird. When you are with friends next, sit and sing.
* Sabrina nods looking somewhat satisfied with his response.
* Sabrina paces a bit looking slightly restless. "I guess I could sing at the Hall sometime. Or maybe for Tarri, Corri and Sanriel."
<Kevil> ::nods:: An excellent beginning.
* Sabrina nods and comes back to stand near Kevil. "More?"
<Kevil> ::grins:: If you like. ::he picks out some new chords, a slightly more complicated song::
* Sabrina nods and begins to sing. Her eyes again closed in concentration as she follows closely along with Kevil's playing.
* Kevil closes his eyes, listening to Sabrina carefully.
* Sabrina smiles slightly and continues to sing, her eyes still closed.
* Kevil opens his eyes as the song ends. "Not bad. You must work on the burr in the bridge, d'va? Did you feel it?"
* Sabrina nods a bit slowly opening her eyes. "I will practice it"
<Kevil> Good. ::he carefully stretches the finger of his injured hand::
* Sabrina smiles and sits, stretching her legs. "Thanks for practicing with me, even with your hurt hand."
<Kevil> ::smiles:: I had meant to practice a bit in any case, to prevent it from stiffening.
<Sabrina> ::nods:: Well I am glad I could help then ::grins::
<Kevil> ::chuckles::
<Kevil> I should be going. I wished only to look in.
<Sabrina> ::nods:: Ok. I'm glad you stopped in.
<Kevil> ::smiles:: I, as well, songbird.
<Kevil> ::he bows elegantly:: I will see you again soon.
* Sabrina stands and nods "Ok. Have a nice afternoon"
* Kevil slings his lute over his shoulder again, smiles at Sabrina one last time, then slips out the door.
* Sabrina waves to him as he goes. She then goes back behind the counter and resumes reading.
